IMAP Archiving Issues

If connecting to your mail server via IMAP, in the Journal Account configuration, perform a test IMAP connection and verify whether a connection can be established. If not, it could be one of the following:

a) Your mail server's IMAP service is down. You need to enable it. Go to the Services Control panel, and start the IMAP service

b) You are using a IMAP password longer than 13 characters. MailArchiva, for some reason, does not like this. Please use a shorter password.

c) The IMAP password you entered is different to the journal account password

d) Archiving is not enabled in the Journal Account settings

e) There are too many messages in journal account on the mail server. For example, Exchange starts to pack up when there are 20,000 messages in one mailbox. Best way to check this, is either connect via OWA or install the Thunderbird mail client on your desktop, set it up to access the journal account mailbox. From there, you will be able to see the number of messages in the journal account. If there are huge number of mails present in the journal account, you may need to recreate and reconfigure another journal account, and slowly move the messages in batches across to the newly created journal account.

f) Envelope journalling is not configured correctly in MS Exchange.

SMTP Archiving Issues

a) In the Listeners configuration section, confirm the MailArchiva SMTP server is listening on the correct port and is enabled

b) Telnet to port 8091 on the MailArchiva server's IP address. If you get a response, you know MailArchiva is listening

c) Download and install the Thunderbird mail client on your desktop. Configure a dummy account, to send to MailArchiva's SMTP server on the correct port. You may need to switch MailArchiva's SMTP server to use port 25 for the experiment. Use Thunderbird to send a test message. If all is well, the test message should appear in the search results.
